Luvox (Fluvoxamine)Pharmacological action
Antidepressant. The action mechanism is bound to selective inhibition of return capture of a serotonin by neurones of a brain. Luvox possesses weak ability to contact a - and b-adrenoretseptorami, histaminic, m-holinoretseptorami.
Indications
- Treatment and preventive maintenance of depressions;
- Treatment of symptoms of obsessivno-compulsive disorders.
Dosage regimen
At treatment of depressions the recommended initial dose makes 50 mg or 100 mg of 1 times/sut, in the evening. Dose rising should be spent gradually. The effective dose making usually 100 mg/sut, select individually depending on reaction of the patient to treatment. The daily dose can reach 300 mg.
Doses more should be distributed than 150 mg/sut on some receptions.
According to official references the CART should be continued treatment by antidepressants, at least, within 6 months after treatment of a depressive episode.
For preventive maintenance of relapses of depression Luvox is recommended to prescribe of 100 mg in a dose of 1 times/days

Side effect

From a metabolism: seldom - the transitional hyponatremia (disappears after Luvox cancellation); it was in most cases observed at patients of senile age. The augmentation or reduction of mass of a body is possible.
The other: probably - sensation of discomfort, an asthenia.
Some from specified above by-effects can be symptoms of depression and are not caused by Luvox action.
After sharp Luvox cancellation the headache, a nausea, giddiness, feeling of pavor were in rare instances observed.
Contraindications
- The expressed disturbances of function of a liver;
- Simultaneous application with inhibitors MAO (between cancellation of an inhibitor MAO and the beginning of Luvox treatment should make an interval not less than 2 weeks);
- Children's age till 8 years;
- A hypersensibility to Luvox (Fluvoxamine) or to other components of a preparation.
Pregnancy and lactemia

Overdosage
Symptoms: most typical a nausea, vomiting, a diarrhoeia, drowsiness, giddiness. There are reports on disturbances of warm activity (a tachycardia, a bradycardia, an arterial hypotension), disturbances of function of a liver, cramps, a clod.
Till now has arrived more than 300 reports on cases of deliberate Luvox overdosage. The greatest registered dose has made 10 g (the patient has been cured as a result of carrying out of symptomatic therapy).
