Decadron (Dexamethasone)Pharmacological action
Glucocorticoid preparation for local application in ophthalmology. Antiinflammatory, antiallergic and antiexudative an effect has.
The active substance of preparation Decadron - dexamethasone - stabilises cellular membranes, reduces permeability of capillaries, causes antiexudative effect, stabilising membranes of lysosomes. Possesses antiproliferative and immunodepressive activity. Inhibits an expression of the genes coding synthesis of fibers, participating in inflammation development. Antiinflammatory and antiallergic action of dexamethasone in 25 times exceeds action of the hydrocortisone.
At local application system absorption low.
Indications
Acute and chronic inflammatory processes:
- A conjunctivitis;
- A scleritis;
- A deep keratitis without an epithelium lesion;
- An iritis;
- An iridocyclitis;
- A choroiditis;
- A chorioretinitis;
- A sympathetic ophthalmia.
Allergic diseases of eyes:
- An allergic conjunctivitis;
- An allergic keratoconjunctivitis;
- A pollinosis.
Preventive maintenance and treatment of the inflammatory phenomena in the postoperative and posttraumatic period.
Dosage regimen
Eye drops instill in a conjunctival bag on 1-2 drops of 3-5 times/days
Duration of a course of therapy should not exceed 2-3 weeks.
The decision on duration of course of treatment is based on efficiency of a preparation, expression of semiology, probability of development of by-effects.
Side effect
From a sight organ: feeling of a burning sensation (quickly passes); at long application - development of a secondary glaucoma, a steroid cataract.
Contraindications
- A keratitis caused Herpes simplex (a treelike keratitis);
- Virus lesions of a cornea and a conjunctiva (at a chicken pox);
- infections of eyes;
- Fungoid diseases of eyes;
- Acute purulent diseases of eyes with a lesion of an epithelium of a cornea;
- Ophthalmotonus rising;
- A hypersensibility to preparation components.
Pregnancy and lactemia
Adequate and strictly controllable clinical researches of safety of application of preparation Decadron at pregnancy and in a lactemia it was not spent.
Appointment Decadron is possible only in that case when the prospective advantage of therapy for mother exceeds potential risk for a foetus or the child.
Special indicatings
At duration of application of a preparation more than 2 weeks, and also at patients with the indicating on opened - also an angle-closure glaucoma in the anamnesis it is recommended to supervise an ophthalmotonus regularly.
If use of contact lenses is necessary they should be taken out before Decadron usage and to establish again not earlier than in 20 minutes
The patient should be informed that at occurrence of by-effects it is necessary to stop immediately treatment and to address to the ophthalmologist.
Use in pediatrics
Till now clinical researches of safety and efficiency of application of Decadron preparation at children were not spent. Preparation application in pediatrics is possible, if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds potential risk of development of side effects.
Influence on ability to driving of motor transport and to management of mechanisms
Right after applications of Decadron preparation there can be the short-term disturbance of visual acuity leading to retardation of psychomotor reactions. Therefore it is not recommended to apply a preparation directly ahead of work with mechanisms and motor transport driving.
Overdosage
At application of Decadron preparation the overdosage is improbable.

Conditions and periods of storage
B.Preparat's list should be stored in a place inaccessible to children at temperature not above 25 C. The Period of validity - 3 years.
