Such results have been received by scientists from the Californian university, compared a metabolism of nicotine at 88 men and 206 women. Almost the quarter of the women participating in research, accepted oral contraceptives, 153 - did not accept any hormonal contraceptives.
During research to volunteers "labelled" nicotine that allowed to trace products of its metabolism in the samples of blood undertaking through certain time intervals was intravenously entered.

It was found out, that disintegration of nicotine at women proceeded much faster, than at men, and the highest rate of a metabolism has been fixed at those participants who accepted oral contraceptives. On the average, at men nicotine action proceeded 132 minutes, at the women accepting oral contraceptives, - 96 minutes, and at other women - 118 minutes.

Rate of a metabolism of nicotine, most likely, depends on level of female sexual hormones, the principal of research considers Neal L. Benowitz.
According to scientists, level of these hormones can influence bent for to tobacco and quantity of smoked cigarettes, and also on success nicotinesubstitution therapies. This assumption proves to be true data of some researches which have shown, that "treatment" for tobacco dependence appears more effective at men, than at women, testifies Benowitz.
