Green fireworks cause an asthma

Inhalation of a smoke from fireworks, especially green, fireworks can provoke an attack of an asthma and lead to an aggravation of diseases of respiratory ways, has informed yesterday magazine New Scientist.

Such is result of studying of products of combustion of the substances containing in pyrotechnics by the Austrian scientists. The head of group of scientists George Shtajnhauzer and its colleagues from Technological university of Vienna have analysed a snow chemical compound in village Zaalbah before New Year's show. Scientists have noticed, that upon termination of a holiday with pyrotechnics use in snow the barium significant amount - substances which gives to fireworks green colour began to contain. Shteinhouser has noticed, that concentration of this substance in samples of snow has increased approximately in 500 times.

Substantial growth of concentration of barium in samples of snow testifies to the high maintenance of an element in a smoke from fireworks, the scientist has explained. Barium inhalation can have dangerous consequences: the element causes narrowing of respiratory ways and provokes asthma attacks, it has explained.

The interrelation between an aggravation of diseases of respiratory ways with pyrotechnics use has been described and earlier. In particular, during festival Divali in India when the large quantity of salutes and fireworks was started, the number of cases of an asthma has increased by 12 %, and at some spectators the bronchitis aggravation has been fixed.

According to the Austrian scientists, in the near future they will create the pyrotechnics which is not containing barium and other hazardous to health elements.
