Worms will help with creation of medicines for an allergy
Parasitic intestinal helminths, such as hookworms, can help scientists with working out of new medicines for an asthma and an allergy. To such conclusion employees of University of Nottingham (Great Britain) and the Vietnamese scientists have come.
The helminthic invasion is endemic for Vietnam, however level of a case rate an asthma and other kinds of an allergy in the country is very low. During research experts gave preparations from helminths to children living in villages of the central district of Vietnam. One and a half thousand Vietnameses took part in experiment at the age from 6 till 17 years. As a result of treatment children and teenagers have got rid of worms, however many of them had an allergy on the dust tick.
In the developed countries the becoming infected intestinal parasites happens seldom enough as people observe rules of personal hygiene. Scientists also believe, that for millions years joint with the person of evolution worms have learnt to suppress the answer of immune system of "owner" to prolong survival term in a human body. "Interrelation" of the person and parasites becomes so close, that without helminths the balance of immune system, and it is broken, in turn, leads to development of an asthma and various kinds of an allergy.
At a following investigation phase scientists wish to understand, how and when intestinal parasites program human immune system. As soon as answers to these questions will be found, there is possible a creation of new preparations which will protect the person from an allergy. These medicines will operate the same as worms, suppressing or restoring balance of immune system so that it did not react to allergens and did not initiate asthmatic attacks.
