Mechanism and Usage

Clavamox (Co-amoxiclav, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate) is used for treating various bacterial infections in cats and dogs, including ear, skin, urinary problems, respiratory infections. Among the indications for use are periodontal infections (aerobic and anaerobic bacteria), infections of skin and soft-tissue (cellulitis, juvenile and deep pyoderma, abscesses, wounds) complicated by lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, non-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus spp., E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp.

Clavamox may be used by healthcare professionals for other purposes not mentioned here.

Clavamox Dosage and Taking

Inform your veterinarian of other antibiotics given to the pet, as well as of probenecids and allopurinols.

The course of treatment for soft-tissue and skin problems makes five to seven days, or 48 hours after vanishing of the manifestations. In case no effect is seen during five days, the course should be stopped and the diagnosis reconsidered. For pets with diagnosed deep pyoderma the duration of the course may constitute up to three weeks, with the maximum of 30 days.

The usual dose for dogs is 6.25 mg/lb (once in 12 hours); for cats 62.5 mg (once in 12 hours).

Clavamox Storage

The recommended storage temperature is 4–30 degrees C. Store the medicine away from pets and little children.

Clavamox Safety information

Clavamox is not recommended for cats and dogs with confirmed allergy to cephalosporins and penicillins. As many other antibiotics, Clavamox may become a cause of allergic reactions due to the presence of amoxicillin. Discontinue the course immediately and consult your veterinarian if any of the states occur: swollen lips, tongue, or neb; short breath, rash or fainting, hives. Epinephrine and/or steroids may be prescribed in such cases.

Severe diarrhea lasting for more than 3 days means that you should seek for veterinary help right away. Among other common side effects are fungal infections, vomiting, sickness, yeast. If these symptoms persist or become troublesome, consult your veterinarian.

There is no information as for safety of Clavamox when used in pregnant or breeding dogs and cats.
